I haven’t forgotten you, oh beautiful readers. I just started a new job and I’m getting settled in. I’ve been working on a couple of new posts and as soon as I have time to finish them, I’ll pass them on to you. When I return I’ll have much catching up to do!

I follow several blogs that talk about the craft of writing and provide advice, inspiration, and prompts. Some of them send out emails. (I’ve mentioned some of them in previous posts.)
One that I get emails from is The Write Practice. Each email provides some concept and then a writing prompt for how to practice using the concept.
Recently, the content focused on living a story in order to write a better story. The gist of it was that we have to live in order to write. If we never leave our safe little corner of the world then how can we write about fantastic adventures and danger in other places?
Well, it got me thinking. I remember a while back I watched an episode of Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition with Chris Powell. He told the subject of that show to workout with intensity.
Hmmm. I thought a little more. The only way to get results from working out is put intensity into the action and making it count. Isn’t everything in life like that? You get out of it what you put into it. The greatest reward (and risk) comes from the greatest investment.
I started wondering if I’ve been putting that level of intensity in my writing, and living, and loving, and …… You get the idea.
How would our lives change if we really invested ourselves into what we pursue and lived with intensity instead of half-assing everything?
Remember the movie Yes Man? Silly concept but true in so many ways. What would happen if we left the safety of our walls and started living? What are we afraid of? What are we waiting for?
My challenge for you for this week is to put intensity and passion into something you do. I don’t care if it’s working out, writing, loving, or cleaning the toilet. Just put everything you have into something and see what happens.
I dare you.

We all have secrets. Sarah in Unethical has big secrets. So does Matt. So does Brian.
Secrets are interesting organisms. They grow and feed off the host until nothing is left but an empty shell. The parasitic secret can destroy the host quickly or slowly over time.
We work hard to keep our secrets hidden in deep dark places where no one is able to stumble upon them accidentally. Some secrets are hidden in locked boxes. Others in encrypted files. Others are stashed safely in our hearts and minds. A secret that is revealed loses its power over the host and eventually shrivels into a pathetic rodent easily crushed under foot.
Do you have the courage to share your secrets? Do they come out in your writing?

I’m a little (okay, a lot) late in my acceptance of the Blog of the Year award. The end of 2012 was so full of highs and lows for me that I neglected to respond to this nomination in a timely manner. A big thanks to Cassandra Giovanni for nominating me!
I hope everyone will forgive me for not nominating anyone else at this time. I don’t know if there is a time limit on this award but it just seems to far into 2013 to nominate anyone else for the year already passed.
So far in 2013 I’m working on catching up on tasks unfinished, catching up on reading posts, and catching a new idea that is floating around in my head!
Anyway, thanks again! And, here’s to getting back into the groove!
The ‘rules’ for this award are simple:
- Select the blog(s) you think deserve the ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award
- Write a blog post and tell us about the blog(s) you have chosen – there’s no minimum or maximum number of blogs required – and ‘present’ them with their award.
- Please include a link back to this page ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award and include these ‘rules’ in your post (please don’t alter the rules or the badges!)
- Let the blog(s) you have chosen know that you have given them this award and share the ‘rules’ with them
- You can now also join our Facebook group – click ‘like’ on this page ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award Facebook group and then you can share your blog with an even wider audience
- As a winner of the award – please add a link back to the blog that presented you with the award – and then proudly display the award on your blog and sidebar … and start collecting stars…
Yes – that’s right – there are stars to collect!
Unlike other awards which you can only add to your blog once – this award is different!
When you begin you will receive the ‘1 star’ award – and every time you are given the award by another blog – you can add another star!
There are a total of 6 stars to collect.
Which means that you can check out your favorite blogs – and even if they have already been given the award by someone else – you can still bestow it on them again and help them to reach the maximum 6 stars!
Blog of the Year 2012’ Award Badges
Here are the six badges for you to collect – you can either ‘swop’ your badge for the next one each time you are given the award – or even proudly display all six badges if you are lucky enough to be presented with the award six times!

And Congratulations! on being chosen for the ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award!

It seems like it’s time to return to writing after such a long time off. I believe I have worked through much of the grieving process and I’m now in the right headspace to continue on my writing journey.
Much of the time off was spent with family. I didn’t write much fiction but I did journal more than I have in a long time. I needed that outlet. That process freed up some space in my brain for the creativity to regenerate once more.
I thank you all so very much for your kind words of sympathy and encouragement. It means that much more when people take time out of their busy days to send healing words my way. Thank you.
There is much to catch up on now. It’s time to move forward and live life.
On the positive side, I’ve accepted a new job! I will be driving less so I hope to have more time for writing.
This is going to be a year of change and growth. Big things are on the horizon both personally and professionally. For the first time in a long time, I feel excited about the year to come.
Well, thank you all again. Stay tuned!
